Malaysia Airlines Flies Daily to Kathmandu

Malaysia Airlines will be increasing its frequency between Kuala Lumpur and Kathmandu to seven times weekly beginning 1 June 2013.

At present, the airline operates five times weekly into the Nepalese state on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

On 1st September 2012, the national carrier operated its inaugural flight to Kathmandu from Kuala Lumpur on a thrice-weekly service schedule. The service was received well and the demand increased in just two months.

The introduction of the new link with Kathmandu is in line with Malaysia Airlines’ continued efforts to further strengthen its market presence in the regional market as outlined in its Business Plan announced last December.

Malaysia Airlines, Director of Commercial, Dr. Hugh Noel Dunleavy said, “We have such great demand from our passengers to fly between Kuala Lumpur and Kathmandu. With the daily frequency, our customers will be able to travel conveniently and at ease. On top of that, the increased frequency will provide excellent connectivity between Malaysia and various other destinations on Malaysia Airlines and our oneworld routes.”

“Kathmandu has been a wonderful experience for us at Malaysia Airlines and our customers. We are not only receiving good traction from the labour market but given that Kathmandu is likened to heaven on earth, many Malaysians are putting this destination in their must visit list. Kathmandu is a hub for independent travellers as well as a growing vacation spot catering to all budgets. Surrounded by serene mountains, it is a perfect place for those who yearn for a relaxing holiday or even a challenging mountain climbing adventure,” he added

A two-class configured Boeing 737-800 aircraft with 144 economy class seats and 16 business class seats is being used for this Kuala Lumpur-Kathmandu return service. Flight MH170 departs Kuala Lumpur at 8.55am to arrive at Kathmandu at 11.30am. The return flight MH171 departs Kathmandu at 12.20pm to arrive at Kuala Lumpur at 7.15pm

Malaysia Airlines only recently had an overwhelming response during its General Elections 2013 (GE13) promotion campaign. The campaign was an effort by the national carrier to ease Malaysians to fly to their hometown in time to vote. The campaign started on 17 April and lasted till 28 April for the travel period of 18 April until 30 November 2013.

Another notable gesture by Malaysia Airlines was to also waive all penalties for revised travel plans in view of the unpredictable dates of the GE13.

Malaysia Airlines, Group Chief Executive Officer, Ahmad Jauhari Yahya earlier said, "The national carrier thanks all its customers for the overwhelming support shown for the special fares campaign. We were probably the only airline to allow our passengers to revise their travel plans for the General Elections to make it easier for our passengers to get home by travelling on Malaysia Airlines, their preferred premium airline,” said Ahmad Jauhari.

Within two weeks after the announcement of the campaign was made, 34,000 seats were already taken. The promotion saw most popular routes like Kuala Terengganu, Alor Setar and Kota Bahru being snapped up within the hour.

Due to the high demand on these routes, Malaysia Airlines also introduced additional flights to Kuala Lumpur - Alor Setar return on 5 May, Kuala Lumpur - Kota Bahru return on 5 & 6 May and Kuala Lumpur - Kuala Terengganu return on 6 May. Nevertheless, despite the end of the promotion, the airline still sees a high demand to travel during the 5 May weekend, especially between 3 until 7 May.

The demand for charter services has also increased during the period of April and May. Routes in demand for the charter services are from Kuala Lumpur to Jeddah, Mecca, Sabah and Sarawak which is mainly for travel in April and May. The load for June and July also looks extremely encouraging.

Due to the encouraging response in domestic travels, Malaysia Airlines was also able to contribute a total of RM638,555 towards the Tabung Wira Lahad Datu Media Prima established to commemorate the services of security personnel who were injured and perished in line of duty defending the sovereignty of Malaysia. Malaysia Airlines felt compelled to contribute towards this fund which will be directed to families of the fallen heroes as well as injured security personnel. This also symbolises the airlines’ overall commitment in supporting the government’s efforts in maintaining safety across Malaysian borders.

Customers may grab these deals through Malaysia Airlines’ website www.malaysiaairlines.com, 24-hour toll-free Call Centre at 1 300 88 3000 and ticket offices nationwide.  For more information and booking on MASholidays package, customers are advised to log on to http://holiday.malaysiaairlines.com or call 03-7863 4000.
