Unveiling Of the New ATR72-600

Firefly has included a newest addition to its existing fleet of 12 ATR72-500 with the new generation of ATR 72-600s.

The first ATR72-600 was received at Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang earlier this week and was being prep for its maiden commercial fight today. The airline is expected to receive in total the state of the art 600 series fleet of 20 aircrafts with deliveries commencing from this month onwards for the next 5-6 years.
This freshly delivered ATR72-600 is set to enter service with its first commercial flight on 12 July, 2013 at 10.30am from SkyPark Terminal, Subang to Senai International Airport, Johor Bahru. Henceforth, it will join Firefly’s current network of flights and will be rotated across it all.

CEO Ignatius Ong said, “We are very proud to finally operate our new ATR72-600 from Toulouse, France. The turboprop is no longer a thing of the past. It is the future for short distance air travel. This innovative and efficient product will help us to further improve guest experience and most importantly safety of our passengers”.

Onboard the ferry flight home last week was our very own Captain Hussein Ishan, Captain Kamarul and Captain Zukifli (DCA) who was assigned to monitor the flight to ensure operational smoothness. There were also two of Firefly’s engineers, See Hui Ping and Mohd Ridhuan Nawawi onboard on the ferry flight. “The ferry flight journey was an exciting one which brought the ferry team from South of France to Greece, Bahrain, Muscat and Maldives before touching down in our Subang home”, Ong further adds.

ATR aircrafts are unrivalled in terms of passenger comfort and environmental friendliness and as a result will further improve guest experience. The new aircraft features the latest innovation with the award-winning Armonia cabin designed by world-renowned Italian design house Giugiaro Design and equipped with new slim-line seats with soft leather, larger overhead bins and appealing LED lighting.

As part of our efforts to continuously improve guest experience, Firefly recently introduced several self-check-in kiosks at SkyPark Terminal, Subang. Passengers are now able to use Firefly’s easy self-check-in options whether it be at the convenience of their homes via web check in or at the airport via self-check-in kiosk. For a simple step by step guide on the proper usage of the kiosk, visit www.fireflyz.com.my . Firefly Introduces Self-Service Check-in Kiosks

Passengers traveling with Firefly can now enjoy a more hassle-free and user-friendly travel experience as Firefly recently launched several new kiosks at SkyPark Terminal, Subang. This operational initiative is part of Firefly’s continuous effort to further enhance customers’ experience. This innovative feature will simplify the airport experience for passengers and aims to minimise the inconvenience commonly associated with check-in processes.
“We intend to alleviate most of the hassle of manual check-in and the queue especially during peak periods primarily for business people and/or commuters on the go. With this new system, it will allow real-time automated checks on self-printed boarding passes. Departing passengers with no check-in baggage can now enjoy a seamless journey as they no longer need to queue at the check-in counters to get their self-printed boarding passes verified by counter staff. They can instead proceed straight to the customs, immigration and quarantine access point where their passes will be verified automatically by security officers”, says Chief Executive Officer, Ignatius Ong.

Firefly’s IT manager, Jimmy Tan highlights, “Now that we have delivered the kiosks, our next step is to work with the mobile check-in facility. This will enable passengers to print their boarding passes by just flashing their smartphones with the QR code at the kiosks”.

The common use of kiosks present a convenient check-in alternative for passengers and better support for Firefly’s operating needs at SkyPark Terminal. Passengers can use these mobile kiosks to check-in themselves, saving time and streamlining their travel experience. There are currently 6 self-check-in kiosks in operation at the departure hall of SkyPark, ready to serve passengers today. Firefly is monitoring the usage of the kiosks and will introduce more of this feature in other Firefly hubs such as Penang in the near future.

Ong further adds, “Points of separation between us and other airlines are we are always leading in innovation, committed to enhancing customers’ experience and prioritising the safety of passengers”.

Passengers are advised to use Firefly’s easy self-check-in options whether it be at the convenience of their homes via web check in or at the airport via self-check-in kiosk. For a simple step by step guide on the proper usage of the kiosk, visit www.fireflyz.com.my.
