Malaysia Airlines to join oneworld on 1 February 2013

I am delighted and pleased to inform you that our airline, Malaysia Airlines, will become a full member of oneworld® with effect from Friday, 1 February 2013.
As Chairman for the oneworld project steering committee, I am happy to share that Malaysia Airlines received clearance to board oneworld after successfully completing a thorough review of our readiness conducted by Qantas, which is sponsoring our entry into the alliance, with the oneworld central team.
While the alliance implementation programme is on track for completion in the coming weeks, the date to join oneworld is being held until the beginning of 2013 to avoid the end-of-year holiday season and for other administrative reasons.
Malaysia Airlines will start offering oneworld’s full range of services and benefits from 1 February 2013, when it becomes the alliance’s second airline operating the Airbus A380 after its oneworld sponsor Qantas.
The other 11 oneworld members are airberlin, American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Finnair, Iberia, Japan Airlines, LAN, Qantas, Royal Jordanian and S7 Airlines. In addition, oneworld has around 20 affiliates including Austria’s NIKI, American Eagle, Dragonair, LAN Argentina, LAN Ecuador and LAN Peru.  Later in 2013, SriLankan Airlines and Qatar Airlines are expected to join as full members.

oneworld - An important & critical Game-Changer in our Business Plan
Our entry into oneworld provides strong customer and business propositions for Malaysia Airlines. We will:
  • Strengthen our competitive position considerably with an increased network of international destinations which will enable us to
  • Expand our global coverage to 840 destinations in 156 countries. Add oneworld’s other members elect – Qatar Airways and Sri Lankan Airlines – and the alliance network reaches to 856 destinations in 159 countries.
  • Be served by some 9,000 departures a day operated by a combined fleet of some 2,500 aircraft.
  • Be part of an airline alliance that carries nearly 340 million passengers a year, with annual revenues of USD110 billion.
  • Enable our customers to enjoy a truly global network together with our partners that include some of the best and biggest airlines in the world.
  • Improve visibility of Malaysia Airlines’ network – serving more than 60 destinations in nearly 30 countries – will be covered by oneworld’s full and extensive range of alliance fares and sales products. We bring to the alliance a strong South East Asia network of 14 destinations and Brunei and strengthen the alliance connectivity between many Asian cities and other parts of the world.
  • Enable us also to tap financial benefits that come from being part of a global alliance, through additional passenger feed and cost reduction opportunities.
Benefits to enjoy on 1 February 2013
  • Global airport lounges access - Enrich Platinum and Gold members will be able to use any of 550 airport lounges worldwide offered by oneworld member airlines whenever they fly with any of the alliance’s carriers. (Enrich Platinum cardholders will have Emerald status in the oneworld programme. Enrich Gold will be equivalent to oneworld Sapphire and Enrich Silver will be oneworld Ruby.)
  • Our First and Business Class passengers will also be able to use oneworld partner airline lounges.
  • More options to earn and burn – With oneworld, Enrich members will have more options to earn and redeem frequent flyer points. Similarly, approximately 125 million members of the established oneworld airlines’ frequent flyer programmes can earn and redeem awards and tier status points as well as receive all other oneworld benefits on Malaysia Airlines.

The Final Lap and going further – Everyone is needed on board from ground to air
We have made good progress in a short time to join a prestigious airline alliance. All this is because of the hardwork, commitment and team spirit from the project team and so many others in business units and stations systemwide working on the Malaysia Airlines – oneworld project.
Critical milestones and sign-offs have been completed - for safety, group handling, training, Master Carrier Document (MCD), customer relations, brand awareness survey, fare class alignment, brand guidelines, global distribution systems (GDS). We have also made significant progress in the system integration for the frequent flyer programme (Commercial & Operations), lounges and revenue accounting.
The next 13 weeks will be absolutely critical for each one of us. There is much to do. We must closely work together and support each other.
This is truly an opportunity for us to serve a much larger and wider base of oneworld customers flying on Malaysia Airlines. These guests (now our customers too) will connect and interact with so many of us at the various customer touchpoints where they will experience our services and products. So it is also important that we keeping raising the Malaysia Airlines hospitality, experience and service levels from ground to air.
On the eve of our entry, there will be a joining event on 31 January 2013 right here in Kuala Lumpur. The other oneworld CEOs are expected to fly into Kuala Lumpur to witness this historic moment not only for us but also for Malaysia together with other important guests and stakeholders.
I seek your help and active involvement. I am confident that the Malaysia Airlines spirit will come through strongly with everyone pulling together to make sure Malaysia Airlines is a shining star on 1 February 2013 and going further.

Happy Halloween

Preparing Your Pets For Hurricane Sandy

Animal experts who have been in the rescue trenches during prior hurricanes urge pet owners to follow a number of guidelines, especially now that Hurricane Sandy is moving into populated areas of the U.S. East Coast.
The statistics in the wake of hurricanes are startling. Evacuations from Hurricane Andrew in 1992 left some 1,000 deserted pets to be euthanized for lack of space to care for them. In 1999, more than 3 million pets and farm animals died as a result of Hurricane Floyd.
"It’s essential that you heed local warnings and evacuate if necessary," Sara Varsa, director of operations for the Humane Society of the United State's Rescue and Response Team, told Discovery News. "If a situation is not safe for you, then it is not safe for your pets."

In 2000, the HSUS and FEMA signed a partnership agreement to encourage and assist people who want to safeguard their pets during a natural disaster. Since that time, it's become easier to find a shelter that will accept pets. But many still don't, so Varsa cautions that you must also consider boarding facilities, hotels that take in pets, homes of friends and relatives in safe areas, and other options.
If you can take your pet to a shelter, Varsa said, you should have a carrier or cage as well as a "to go bag to grab" containing an identification collar and rabies tag, detailed identification on all belongings, a leash (or harness for a cat), an ample supply of food, water and food bowls, any necessary medications, specific care instructions and newspapers or trash bags for clean-up.
If you are not forced to evacuate, but are still in the path of the hurricane, she said, "Hurricanes cause pressure changes that pets may detect. Cats and dogs may become disoriented and will likely be scared of any loud storm
It's essential, she said, that cats be kept in a comfortable room with the "to go" bag and carrier nearby, while dogs "not be off leash at any time" during the storm.
Jennifer Scarlett, a veterinarian and co-president of the San Francisco SPCA, ran an emergency shelter in Hattiesburg, Miss., during Hurricane Katrina and its devastating aftermath. At least 1500 cats and dogs were under her care at the shelter. Many arrived after "rescue runs," when volunteers and staff would hunt for abandoned or otherwise remaining pets in storm areas.
Scarlett said that when a cat or dog comes into a shelter, "We take pictures, wash the animal, decontaminate it, and then house it and wait for the owners to show up."
Identification can be a huge challenge, even if an owner goes to the right shelter to later reclaim a pet.
"We often have to take the photos at night, when the lighting is bad and the pets are scared and may not even resemble their usual selves," Scarlett said. "It’s a real mess. Had owners microchipped their pets, they would’ve prevented so many problems and likely have been reunited with their dog or cat. Remember that collars can easily come off."

She urged owners to not leave pets alone at home during storms, even if ample water and food are provided.
"It is always better to take your pets with you," she said, adding that rescue workers are often later faced with animals suffering from starvation, dogs and cats that have been hit by cars after bolting, or pets that otherwise have been hurt or became ill.
Scarlett"s experience has also taught her a tip not usually seen on most disaster preparedness materials: Add a can of tuna fish, or other food for both humans and pets, to your "to go" bag.
She explained, "Tuna provides protein for dogs and cats, and you can eat it too."

Night Vision in Cats

Cats see very well in the dark, which is important to their natural nocturnal hunting behavior. Though they are unable to see in complete blackness, they are able to perceive more than we can in very low light. The cat’s eye has several anatomic features that are designed to enhance their night vision.
Cats have elliptical pupils that are oriented vertically. This elliptical pupil allows it to open much larger than a human’s round pupil. The larger pupil lets in more light and enhances a cat’s vision in low light.

Another important feature of a cat’s eyes is a membrane called the tapetum lucidum. The tapetum is designed to reflect light within the eye itself and allow more light to reach the retina. The flash of a cat’s eyes in the dark, or “eyeshine” that we see, is light reflecting off of the cat’s tapetum.

The cat’s retina is also designed for vision in low light conditions because it is made up of many more rods than cones. Rods are more effective than cones at absorbing light. Cones are responsible for absorbing color and yielding color vision, which is more limited in cats than humans. Much like dogs, cats see blues and violets better than reds.
The large pupil and reflective tapetum maximize the light that reaches the retina, which is saturated with rods that are very effective at absorbing light. The structures all work together to send a signal along the retinal nerve to produce an image in the cat’s brain, even in the dark of night. The image to the right demonstrates the enhanced image a cat will see with its superior night vision.

Malaysia Airlines increases capacity & flights between Malaysia and Taipei

Malaysia Airlines is pleased to announce the introduction of B737-800 services on its Kota Kinabalu - Taipei route and increased weekly frequencies between Kuala Lumpur and Taipei during the 2012/3 Northern Winter operating schedule, to cater to the growing demand for air travel on this network.

Effective 15 November 2012, its daily flight between Kota Kinabalu and Taipei will be upgraded from the present 144-seater B737-400 to the 160-seater B737-800 aircraft, offering an extra 112 seats weekly in each direction.

The B737-800 aircraft with a configuration of 16 business and 144 Economy seats, provides premium travel experience with on-demand in-flight entertainment system at every seat.

Effective 19 February 2013, Malaysia Airlines will also introduce an additional 4 weekly B737-800 flights to the existing daily B737-800 services between Kuala Lumpur and Taipei.

The new flights depart Kuala Lumpur at 1.35am and arrive Taipei at 6.20am every Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. The inbound flights depart Taipei at 7.55am and arrive Kuala Lumpur at 12.45pm on the same days.

Regional Senior Vice President for Malaysia/ASEAN, Muzamil Mohammad said, "With the change of aircraft type and increased services, we will offer 11flights weekly from Kuala Lumpur and 7 flights weekly from Kota Kinabalu to Taipei, providing a total weekly capacity of 5,760 seats between Malaysia and Taiwan in both directions. This development was also possible due to the significant improvements in the manner we deploy our narrow body aircraft. It has brought the double benefit of allowing us to operate more services for increased revenue generation and by flying the aircraft more often we reduce the cost of every seat kilometre flown”.

“The Malaysian tourism industry is targeted to contribute RM104 billion to the country’s Gross National Income by 2020. To achieve this ambitious growth target, Malaysia will need to achieve 36 million tourist arrivals in 2020 from 24 million in 2009, at approximately 1.5 times growth. Malaysia Airlines will continue to contribute improved tourist arrivals to Malaysia by gradually increasing international connectivity through its own flights and also by leveraging on existing code share arrangements with other full service carriers." added Muzammil.

Malaysia Airlines is also offering attractive offers to Taipei from now till 5 Nov 2012 for the travel period from now till 30 June 2013. The all-inclusive promotional return economy class airfare from Kuala Lumpur to Taipei starts from only RM1159 and starts from RM969 from Kota Kinabalu to Taipei.  The all-inclusive return fare on business class from Kuala Lumpur to Taipei starts from only RM3179 and starts from only RM2679 from Kota Kinabalu to Taipei.

Customers planning their travel on the above services can book and pay through all distribution channels mainly www.malaysiaairlines.com, Malaysia Airlines 24 hours toll free number 1 300 88 3000, MH Buddy in Malaysia Airlines Facebook, MHmobile, Malaysia Airlines ticket offices and appointed agents throughout Malaysia.

TERAPI PERNAFASAN UNTUK SAKIT KEPALA & KELETIHAN

TERAPI PERNAFASAN UNTUK SAKIT KEPALA & KELETIHAN (BREATHING THERAPY FOR HEADACHE & TIREDNESS )
(Our noses have left and right nostrils. Are these nostrils having the same function for inhaling/"breathe- in" and exhaling/"breathe- out"?).

-
( Actually it's not the same and we can feel the difference. Accordingly, the right side represents the sun/"heat" and the left side represents the moon/"cold") ..

-
Jika sakit kepala , cubalah menutup lubang hidung sebelah kanan danbernafaslah melalui hidung sebelah kiri dan lakukan kira-kira 5 minit , sakit kepala akan sembuh ...
( When having headache, try to close your right nostril and use your left nostril to do breathing for about 5 min. The headache will be gone).
-
Jika anda merasa lelah , tutuplah lubang hidung sebelah kiri dan bernafaslahmelalui hidung sebelah kanan . Lakukan ulang-alik . Tak lama kemudian, anda akan merasakan segar kembali. Sebab lubang hidung sebelah kananmengeluarkan panas, sehingga banyak sekali panas , lubang hidung sebelah kirimengeluarkan dingin ...
(If you feel too tired, do it the opposite way. Close your left nostril and breathe through your right nostril. After a while, you will feel refresh again. Because the right side belongs to heat, so it gets hot easily. The left side gets cold easily).

-
(Women breathe mainly with their left nostril, so they get calm down easily. Men breathe mostly with their right nostril, so they get angry easily).

-
( When we wake up, do we notice which nostril breathes faster? Is it the left side or the right side ? If the left nostril breathes faster, you will feel very tired. Close your left nostril and use your right nostril for breathing and you will get refresh quickly)
(You can teach your kids about it. The effect of breathing therapy is much better for adults).
-
( I used to have painful headache. When consulted a doctor, he told me jokingly," You will be all right if you get married!" The doctor did not bullshit me as he had his theory and supported with testimony. During that time, I used to have headache every night and I was not able to study. I took medicine but I was not cured).

(One night as I sat down to medidate, I closed my right nostril and breathed with my left nostril. In less than a week, it seemed that my headache problem had left me! I continued
doing it for about a month and since then there was no recurrence of headache in me) ...

(This is my own experience. I used to tell others who also suffer headache to try this method as it was effective for me. It also works for those who have tried as well. This is a natural therapy, unlike taking medicines for a long time may have side effect. So, why don't you try it out?)

THE SUPERB BIONIC DOLPHIN

There are several companies in California producing 'Bionic Dolphins', the idea has been around since the 70's, first dreamt up by Tom Rowe.

This particular model comes from a company called Innespace, the dolphin itself is called sweet virgin angel.

The Bionic dolphin does not use negative buoyancy like other submersibles to dive, instead it uses the basic principles of aircraft wings, reversed, to 'fly' underwater.

This novel feature allows the Bionic Dolphin to perform a wide variety of aquatic acrobatics, and the craft can literally leap out of the water.

Using a 110 hp Yamaha Jetski engine the Bionic Dolphin is capable of 30 mph on the surface and 20 mph submerged. The single occupant sits in an unpressurised cockpit and can dive to a depth of roughly 10 feet (3 metres).

This particular Bionic Dolphin, painted in Dr Evils colours, was used in the hit movie 'Austin Powers Goldmember'.
