Malaysia Airlines' Sixth A380 Arrives in KLIA - National air carrier completes long range wide body aircraft refleeting exercise

On 29 March 2013, Malaysia Airlines’ sixth Airbus A380 aircraft that departed from the Airbus assembly plant in Toulouse, France yesterday touched down in KL International Airport (KLIA)  at 3.30pm.

The sixth aircraft of Malaysia Airlines is significant in the family of the super jumbos as it is the 100^th A380 to be rolled out from the assembly plant in Toulouse.

Malaysia Airlines’ Group Chief Executive Officer Encik Ahmad Jauhari Yahya said, “The A380 is part of our Business Planto win back customers.

These new aircraft featuring state-of-the-art passenger amenities complement our refreshed products and services delivery by our award winning workforce. This is the winning combination that will help us remain focused on evolving into the preferred premium carrier and we are confident that

such attributes will enhance yields, loads and our return to profitability”.

On arrival in KLIA, the special aircraft was greeted by a water salute provided by Malaysia Airport Holdings Berhad.

With the sixth A380 now in its fleet, Malaysia Airlines has completed its long range wide body re-fleeting exercise, replacing the fleet of Boeing 747-400 that served on the airline’s network since 1990s.

Last year, Malaysia Airlines marked the entry of its first A380 into the airline’s fleet by having its Five-Star Airline status renewed by Skytrax – as the airline embarked on a series of improvements to repositioning it as a premium carrier.

The national carrier’s 494-seater A380 commenced services between London and its home base, Kuala Lumpur on 1 July 2012 and by 24 November it began double daily A380 services between the two cities.

From 1 March this year, Paris became the airline’s second European destination with daily A380 services linking Kuala Lumpur. By 1 May 2013, the aircraft will begin daily flights between Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong.
